Who’s Your Weapon was my submission for the 72 hour Ludum Dare 45 game jam. The theme of the jam was “Start With Nothing” thought I decided to combine this with a theme from another jam—”Loser”. I wanted to combine these themes because I thought adding more constraints could spark more creativity in my game design.
The result of these themes became Who’s Your Weapon where you gain access to a new weapon with each death. Your killer becomes your tool for victory. Death in the game can be very punishing but it’s often more interesting to reward the player or force the player to play in a new style when they need to restart. Changing up the mechanics with every death is the way to make gameplay different in each run of a roguelike. To expand on this project, I’d love to add many different enemy types as well as different level structures. If I had more time I would have implemented environmental objectives where you had to hit triggers to open doors or avoid electricity on the ground and more.
Start with no weapons at all but you can learn from those who have killed you in the past and use their own techniques against them. Unlock weapons of those who killed you and find your way out of this simulation of cubes.
