About

Kevin Ray | Game Developer

I’ve been developing games for as long as I can remember. One of my earliest memories is of creating my own levels in the Warcraft III World Editor, inventing my own quests that continued the story of the Warcraft III campaign. Games and any entertainment medium for that matter are never isolated. overlap always exists between film and literature and theater and games. Much of my time has gone to studying film and other forms of entertainment but developing video games was always the root of my interests.

The games I make are consistently informed by my other passions of mental health and history but explored through unique game mechanics. I’m always ready to try out new game systems to explore these topics through rapid prototyping and iteration. Studying psychology allowed me to understand better the minds of my players and the characters I bring to life in fiction. History comes in tandem, providing a basis for cultural influences and representation in my work. The mechanics alongside the subject matter often changes when necessary but every project reaches toward a clear goal.

Game jams have fostered this spirit of “creating from the gut” and reshaping those games on the fly. My solo dev experience greatly informed my ability to lead projects as a game director and producer. I’ve worked in every role you could think of which helps me work with others who specialize. Creating games is exciting and expressive and collaborative, yet for me, nothing is quite as exciting as bringing the team together to watch people play and laugh and cry when playing one of our games for the first time.

I am currently working as a freelance game developer but looking forward to working on some longer-term projects. I’m eager to see what we can create together! Reach out to me at thekevdev@gmail.com to talk!
